AVOIDING NEW ROAD CONSTRUCTION AT THE BORDER

Temporary Alternate Route to Rosarito-Ensenada Toll Road from June 27, 2008 - ???

Road construction has created the need for the alternative to the normal entrance on the right hand side of the road, just past the airport exit and shortly after visitors cross into Mexico from the San Ysidro crossing. Temporarily, visitors will have to use an alternate route to get to the Rosarito-Ensenada scenic highway, also known as the Toll Road. City officials have placed temporary signs over the permanent road signs with arrows to guide you to from the border or, if you prefer to go through downtown Tijuana, a map and directions of an alternate route follow. More detailed maps will be posted on www.rosarito.org

EASY DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS

FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

San Diego California USA Orange County, California, USARiverside County, California, USALA County, California, USA

Santa Barbara County, California, USASan Bernardino County, California, USAImperial County, California, USA

Both Interstate highways 5 south and 805 south merge at the San Ysidro, USA/Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico border crossing. When you cross the border, stay in the right lane and, as you go up over the overpass, keep moving into the far right lane marked with signs that read "Rosarito/Ensenada" to merge with the road that runs along the actual border between the US and Mexico (there will be a tall fence on your right).

As you crest the hill, move into the right lane. At the bottom of that hill take the fork to the right. It is marked with arrows "Rosarito/Ensenada Cuota." (Cuota is the Toll Road).

You will come to the first toll booth almost immediately (about $2.50). Continue on the road through the second toll booth (about $2.50) just past downtown Rosarito. Proceed another 9 miles where you will find an exit sign marked "Puerto Nuevo." Exit here and turn left heading south onto the Carretera Libre (the parallel Free Road). Less than 2 miles, just past the main entrance to Puerto Nuevo, you will find New Port Beach hotel on the shoreline. Exit onto the frontage road, turn right through our arch and past our security kiosk into our gated parking lot.

Cantamar or Primo Tapia Exit

Don't worry if you miss the exit, there's another!

You will pass the hotel on the right before coming to the next exit marked "Cantamar Puerto Nuevo." Again, exit to the right but this time turn right onto Carretera Libre north.

You will find New Port Beach Hotel about a mile north on the left.

DRIVING SAFETY & INSURANCE TIPS

One advantage of using the toll road is that you are insured while traveling on that road. Be sure to save the toll booth receipts as proof of insurance in case of an emergency. This insurance is effective only while you are on the toll road. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you obtain insurance from one of the numerous Mexican Insurance Agencies that dot the freeways in the USA just before you reach the border or online by using one of the links on this web site. You can also obtain this insurance from the AAA if you are a member. AVIS will issue this insurance if you rent one of their cars.

Mexican auto insurance is sold in 24-hour increments and, even though our parking is gated and Security Guards control ingress and egress, insurance covers your liability and is relatively inexpensive considering there are only 2 options if you are involved in an accident:

  • Prove to the police you are insured with a policy that clearly states MEXICAN INSURANCE on it.
  • Pay the injured party for damages on the spot.

We want you to enjoy the drive and have a great time at our hotel!
